Marketing Hasn’t Changed in Over 2000 Years

What if I told you that marketing hasn't changed in over 2000 Years? While methods of advertising and promotion may have changed, the basic concepts of marketing is still the same as they were even before Christ. From the Bible to Tik Tok, marketing is still defined as the process of communicating the value of a product or service, for the purpose of selling the product or service.
Many people feel threatened by social media. What is this Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIn stuff? Do I really need a YouTube channel? Wait, now you're talking about Tik Tok. STOP! Take a breath; the basic concepts of marketing are the same. Today, your messages are delivered in a different vehicle. The bottom line, as a business is that you have to effectively deliver your marketing message to as large of an audience as possible who have the ability to buy your product or service.
Most business people know before purchasing any traditional advertising to ask the following questions:
What is the circulation or distribution of the advertisement? or How big is the audience for my message?
What are the demographics? or Who is in the audience?
How often will my advertisement run?
How much will it cost?
Once you have the answers to these basic questions, it then becomes a business decision. Provided that your message is being delivered to the right demographics or audience it then becomes a cost per view equation. Which is the reason why Super Bowl commercials cost over $1,000,000 for 30 seconds and advertising on my daughter’s lemonade stand is free?
So now let’s talk about social media. When your company is posting on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, or Twitter, the number of “Likes”, “Followers”, or people who have “Accepted” your invitations to connect are only viewing your message or advertisement. For Example, if Kada’s Lemonade Stand had a Facebook page it might have 50 “Likes”. Like many small businesses, Mom, Dad, Grandma, Grandpa, Aunts, and Uncles would all “Like” her page. We may even be able to convince some of our friends to “Like” her page as well.
Now every time Kada’s Lemonade Stand has a sale she posts the message on Facebook and of course Mom, Dad, Grandma, and Grandpa all “Like” her post. Unfortunately, her message is only being delivered to the same people who have already made up their mind that they “Like” her posts. Sound familiar? The failure of most small businesses to apply the basic concepts of marketing to the social media age is resulting in them delivering their message to only a few dozen people rather than thousands.
Imagine Marketing and We Are Winter Garden have programs, which will increase your followers on social media by giving you access to our digital platform. The advantage to this program is that once these people “Like” or "Follow" your page the cost per impression is basically free. If you would like more information about this program or you have questions about any of our other products or services you can contact me at marc@imagineyourmarketing.com.
